Most modern phones use a microUSB or USBC cable. After connecting the cable to the phone and the USB port on the computer a notification about connection to the device should appear on the phone screen. Then on the phone screen select the option to transfer files. This may be File Transfer or Media Device (MTP). Selecting this option will allow your computer to access your phone's memory.
