Today we have a movie review for the remake of the classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still" starring Keannu Reeves. I watched this and I must say I loved it.Special effects were impressive of course, but in this day and age of movies filled with them,it's hard to find a film where they enhance the storyline of the film. This film pulls it off without a hitch. The only exception would be Gort, the giant robot who disturbingly looks little to no different from his original 1950's cinematic counterpart. However, that cheesy look is overcome by a menacing gunmetal finish and red Cylon-like eye which by itself is scarier than he looks as a whole. Yes,it is somewhat predicable, meaning you already know what's gonna happen before it happens, but it flows and keeps interest without padding the film with boring fluff that belongs on the cutting room floor. The plotline of the film is simple,an alien race has come to save the earth and the living creatures upon it,but not mankind whom they believe is killing it and needs to be eradicated from existance. Keanu plays Klatuu, the alien in human form sent to investigate the earth and its inhabitants along with his destructive assistant Gort.Once Klatuu discovers that humanity has a more caring side,he takes it upon himself to stop Gort's destruction sequence. Overall I'd have to say either you're gonna love it for what it is,or compare it to the original and hate it. Let the film stand on it's own merits and it is quite enjoyable and worth watching. So watch it!!
